Time Flies and Sometimes That’s Okay

Last I spoke, it was December and I was planning a lot of Christmas activities to enjoy with my daughter.  We got off to a great start and then it happened.

Taylor got sick.  Throwing-up-eight-times-a-day-some-days-for-nine-days-straight kind of sick.

So everything went out the window.  Because of course, that kind of stuff can be planned right?

Needless to say, we got a few things done: the Christmas Parade, watching all the Christmas movies I could desire, driving around to look at lights (which Taylor loved), and decorating the house.  After Christmas, thanks to the generosity of my in-laws, we enjoyed a ride on the Polar Express! (We’ll try again next year!)

We went out of town for New Year’s Eve to visit family and that was lovely.

Then I blinked and January was over.

Valentine’s Day is this weekend – I have nothing yet planned – and February will be over before I know it.

And that’s okay, because I have something else I’m planning that is far more exciting than winter.

In exactly 88 days I will finally achieve my life long (okay, since I was 16) goal/dream/whatever you want to call it – I am going to LONDON!

Since I was around 16 years old, I have been obsessed with Europe.  The history, the culture, the languages, everything.  I wanted to backpack across Europe and even had a year long trip planned, though I knew that was the most unlikely scenario.  So here I am, 14 years later and finally about to embark on my first trip to Europe.  I say first because my wanderlust will never be quenched.

Follow along on my journey.  It still feels a little surreal but writing it down certainly helps!

25 Days To Christmas – Week 1 -How We Did

Today is December 7, and the end of the first week of December.  So how did we do?

Well, not as good as I would have liked.  Last Monday, Taylor got sick with a nasty virus and is only just now able to really start eating again.  As such, there are a few things we had to skip (like going to the Winterfest festival as it was cold, rainy, and Taylor was in the middle of vomiting everywhere).

So here’s what we DID do:

We watched the Peanut’s Christmas Special, I did get our Christmas cards ordered, we went to the local parade, we did watch a lot of Christmas specials on TV while doing some decorating, and we did make it to Christmas Village last night to walk around and see all the pretty lights.

Not too bad considering I suppose.

My mom came out to visit for a long weekend and to participate in some of the Christmas festivities with us but she is going home today.  A good part of our day is going to be taken up driving her to the airport so I’m actually not sure if we will be able to take part in the “Participate in an Angel Tree” activity, but if we don’t, I will move that to another day and maybe we can do a Christmas craft tonight.

25 Days to Christmas – Week 1

As part of my 25 Days to Christmas series, I wanted to post the plans I have for the first week of December.  It’s actually slightly difficult to come up with 25 different things (I have a feeling we will be doing a lot of crafts).  Also, we have already gone to visit Santa (I like to go early in the season to avoid crowds.  And I also use the photo we purchase for our Christmas cards which I will be ordering soon.) and this year I would like to go get a family photo with reindeer (yes, you read that correctly, I am planning to have my photo taken with a DEER (for those of you that don’t know me, I have an irrational fear of deer that stems from hitting one with my car years ago)).  This photo would also be for our Christmas card so I am thinking of getting it done Thanksgiving weekend.  So that is 2 different ideas I could use but will be doing them in November instead.  Oh well, I will just have to get creative!

So here is the plans I have for the first week of December and they are subject to change as life happens.

Tuesday, December 1 – Local Winterfest and tree lighting
Wednesday, December 2 – Christmas craft
Thursday, December 3 – Watch Peanuts Christmas special
Friday, December 4 – Christmas cards
Saturday, December 5 – Local Christmas parade/tree lighting.  Also, my mom will be in town so we will be watching all of our favorite Christmas movies as per our tradition and decorating.
Sunday, December 6 – Local Christmas village – It’s a big village you can walk through
Monday, December 7 – Participate in an Angel Tree (or some other form of local Christmas charity)

I’m looking forward to doing these special things with my daughter.  I know she probably won’t remember them but they will create happy memories for me and fun stories I can tell her in the future.

What other suggestions do you have for 25 Days to Christmas?

Getting Ready for “25 Days to Christmas”!

It’s November 4, 2015 and that means that the holiday season is upon us.  This year, Taylor is 2 years old an really beginning to understand things.  Last year I wanted to do a “25 Days to Christmas” sort of advent/countdown with her.  I just love Christmas and all the fun things that go along with it.  We ended up not doing it simply because time got away from me and I didn’t get it planned out before December hit (and maybe also because she wouldn’t have understood any of it)!  So this year I’m starting early and already have most of my list planned.  In fact, I’m so on top of it, that I’m planning down what we are doing on which day!  I figure that will make it easier to accomplish because it’s not feasible to try to go choose a Christmas tree as a family on a Wednesday night when I work nights…  If I have it planned out ahead of time, I can put those things on the weekend and not have to worry about missing a day.

What kinds of things do you do as a family during the holidays?  What traditions do you participate in?

I will be documenting this occasion (so you better hold me accountable!) complete with photos!   I’m so looking forward to it!

I Can’t Even.

Lately I have been so overwhelmed and like most white girls toting Starbucks in their Uggs, “I can’t even.”  I have been feeling pulled in thousand directions all at once and I thought going on vacation would help.  I felt I was doing so much research and planning that perhaps I was just spending too much time on that and caused myself all this undue stress.  But I went on our big family vacation and two weeks later I went on a weekend getaway with my best friend and was able to just let loose.

But as soon as I came back to reality, nothing had changed.  And that’s when I realized, I have A LOT on my plate.  I need to become more organized and make to do lists to follow instead of trying to keep it all in my memory (because frankly that isn’t working!)  I want to have time to just play with my daughter or sit down and watch anything other than Disney Junior but I. JUST. DON’T. HAVE. TIME.  In order to do those things, I have to put other things off.

Any suggestions out there on how to manage my time better?  Or how to be able to sort out everything that needs done?  Or how to boost my memory – I feel like since I got pregnant I have had a HORRIBLE memory?  And how to stop feeling overwhelmed to the point that I feel like “Oh, I’ll do it tomorrow”?

Just… stress.

Looking For a Change

Forgive me for not updating – at all – recently, but I’ve been looking for some new opportunities and am looking to implement them quite soon.  And that’s just my “business” life.  In my personal life, things have been hectic with a 2 year old (Terrible Twos anyone?), family vacation (DISNEY!), and beginning some home renovations.

Summer is ALWAYS insane for us.  We are out of town at least once a weekend each month (usually more) and every other weekend we have something planned.  But now it’s fall, our vacation has come and gone, and things can finally settle down.  I always look forward to fall just so I can sit down and relax and start thinking about hibernating for winter (I hate cold weather!)

But back to those changes.  I have been researching a new place to host my website and blog and am currently trying to decide on that.  I will likely keep this blog for personal updates but with the new one I will writing about travel.  Traveling is one of my favorite hobbies (and I don’t get to really travel often enough!) and now that I am a traveling Mom, I have a lot to talk about it.  Taylor is 2 years old and has already flown 4 times and done a cross country road trip.  I would like to share my experiences with other moms who may not have any experience with traveling with an infant/toddler and needs advice!

So as I complete that process I will happily let you know!

We’re Booked!

We have officially booked our trip to Disney and I couldn’t be more excited!  And if you have been to Disney recently/are going soon, you know that you have to book dining reservations 180 days in advance.  That day for us is next Monday.  So this week I will be prepping for that and deciding on where we want to eat, etc.  And of course discussing with our friends so we can decide together.

In the meantime, I posted a video below actually discussing our plans thus far.  Let me know what you think!  And if you have any recommendations for dining (quick service or table service!)
